My first taste of canoeing was way back in junior school with some canoe lessons at our local lake, then followed two outward bound type trips in high school, one of which was a whole week of just canoeing, i was hooked.
Bought my first canoe at 14 which was replaced with a top of the range plastic canoe at 17, which still hangs in the shed today. (not so top of the range now !)
Myself and a couple of other mates then spent the next 10 or so years learning, paddling as much white water as we could find, then finally towards the end, helping out teaching in a couple of local clubs.
I had always fancied the idea of a somewhat slower genteel pace of canoeing coupled with camping along the way, so when Ralph announced he was about to buy a Canadian canoe, i needed very little pressure on my twisted arm to be his co-pilot.
